Pushing the Envelope

Categories: Using MillMax

You have a Dashboard and it is producing a stable cut, but you want to try and push the tool deeper, either axially or radially. Here is an example:

Using the speed that is in the middle of a stable green pocket, you can start to gradually increasing the axial depth of cut in 10% increments on test cuts. Record the sound of each test cut using the Harmonizer. When Harmonizer detects chatter revert back to the prior depth, in this case 0.2500". NOTE: You can do this with a constant axial depth and incrementally increasing the radial width of cut.

Enter the new depth of cut, width of cut, speed and feed rate into the Current Conditions Calculator. Next you will need to adjust the Cutting Stiffness (Ks) parameter in the Material Details. Open the Calibrate Dashboard calculator on your iPhone by aiming your phon's camera at this QR code:

Go to Setup in MIllMax and open Material Details.

Change the Cutting Stiffness (Ks) to new calculated value.

Click OK.

Click NO.

Generate the new Dashboard.

This is what is happening behind the Dashboards. This is the stability lobe diagram from the initial Dashboard.
