Boeing developed formulas to calculate true tool cost based on the tool's performance.

Dr. Andrew Honeycutt at Oak Ridge National Laboratory modified this formula to include the tool change downtime on a smaller machine. The attached spreadsheet can compare up to four different tool assemblies.

We have added a field for air cutting. If the mill is out of the cut, for trochoidal milling for example, you would enter 50% to account for the air cutting time. The MMR and Tool Cost calculations will reflect that.
