Categories: Performance : Windows & Doors

The performance characteristics listed below are relevant to products covered by EN 14351-1 Windows and doors - Product standard, performance characteristics - Part 1: Windows and external pedestrian doorsets without resistance to fire and/or smoke leakage characteristics

This requirement applies to:

WindowsYes
DoorsYes
Roof windowsYes

Doorsets and openable windows with fire resisting and/or smoke control characteristics are covered by EN 14600

Pedestrian doorsets, industrial, commercial, garage doors and windows are covered by prEN 16034 p>

Principles

The window, door or roof window shall:

  • Have acceptably low deflections under applied wind load
  • Have acceptable resistance to damage under repeated wind load
  • Have acceptable resistance to damage under static wind load

Test pressures are based on a classification wind pressure P1

P1 is the applied pressure at which deflections are measured.

A lower pressure P2 = 0.5 x P1 is defined for the repeated wind load test.

A higher pressure P3 = 1.5 x P1 is defined for the static load test.

    Standards

EN 12211Windows and doors - Resistance to wind load - Test method
EN 12210Windows and doors - Resistance to wind load - Classification

    Method of test

The test method is described in EN 12211. The window, door or roof window is mounted on a test box and subjected to a variable pressure difference. The pressure sequence contains:

  • The pressure at which deflections are measured
  • Cycles of pressure for the repeated load test
  • A final application of pressure for the safety test

  •

    Classification

The class of performance is given as a number indicating the peak test pressure and the letter A or B signifying the test method and conditions of use.
