Coherence is the accuracy of the tap-test. Here is a comparison of two coherence graphs. The upper graph shows mostly acceptable percentages above 80% as represented by the red line. The lower graph has poor coherence below 80%

A poor measurement is better than no measurement. Below is a stability lobe diagram made from the above measurements. The upper (good) measurement is in red and the lower (poor) measurement is in brown. As you can see the speeds, especially the dominant one at around 10,000 RPM, are largely the same. Therefore, even with a poor measurement, causes outside of your control, will still yield accurate speed recommendations IF you stay in the center of the lobe or speed zone on the Dashboard.
